MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS AND THE FATE OF NATION-STATES IN AFRICA

With no intention to pre-empt the possible position of (some) speakers as assembled at this conference to discuss the theme as suggested by the organisers, the Student Economic Society of this university, let me seize the privilege afforded me as the keynote speaker to make my position clear and rather unapologetically that multinational corporations in Africa are anti-development of African states. And that they have done much damage to the socio-economic development of African states in which they have been welcomed erroneously as agents of development and ‘technology transfer’ by the generality of the people who are oblivious of the evil collaboration between the leaders of these states who are no more than the agents of neo-imperialism that the multinational corporations are. I shall explain this shortly, but first let us come to terms with the understanding of multinational corporations.
