Autobiography

The journey behind the vision.

Born on January 26, 1956, Professor Akinyemi Oladimeji Onigbinde was at Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria for his post- elementary education, from where he proceeded to the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo, Ile-Ife and the University of Lagos, Nigeria for his Undergraduate and Graduate studies, respectively. His studies were in academic philosophy. Professor Onigbinde’s primary constituency is in the academia where,he was, at a time, before departing the walls of the classrooms as a teacher, the Head of Philisophy Department at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago- Iwoye, and a member of the Senate, the university’s highest ruling body on academic matters. His areas of academic engagements are in Socio-political philosophy and the Philosophy of Social Sciences, areas in which he has published over a dozen full-length books and several peer review papers in leading National and International journals.Between 2004 and 2011, Professor Onigbinde was a member of the Governing Council of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijegun, Ijebu,Ogun State, Nigeria.Outside of his works in the university as a researcher and teacher, Professor has served as a Consultant on many political- related committees, as set up by individuals and groups.. He has many biographical works to his credit, some of which were ghost-written. Though outside of the university system as a tenured academic, Professor Onigbinde continues to work (as duty calls), in many universities in Africa and Europe as a visiting professor and/ or research fellow

As a consumate public intellectual, Professor Onigbinde continues to share his time between the arcane environment of the university community and media houses in Nigeria, where journalists, as their counterparts all over the world, run ‘a shadow government’, as the putative Fouth Estate of the Realm by interrogating every aspect of their respective countries’ governance structures through various desks.

As a columnist, and through his membership of editorial boards of some national newspapers and weekly magazines at different times, since 1983, the political philosophy scholar continues to bring epistemological insights into discourse, through various media outlets, on Nigeria and world affairs. His productive relationship with the newsroom, and the need to further deepen his engagement with the Nigerian state and the global community led to his involvement in the establishment of The Westerner newspaper, of which he was the founding Managing Director/CEO and the Editor-in- Chief, 2004-2007

Currently, Professor Onigbinde is the Executive Secretary of Centre for Policy & Development Studies based in Ilepa- Ifo, Ogun State, Nigeria

Onigbinde’s credo is that of a Nigerian in search of fairness, justice, and equitable treatment for every member of our common humanity, using the instrumentality of ideas in expanding the frontiers of knowledge in the permanent march of civilization

His hobbies include playing the game of Table Tennis and can be found engaging others in debates on sundry public affairs.
