HEIDEGGER AND THE QUEST FOR BEING

Introduction

In dealing with the thought of Martin Heidegger, we shall be dealing with a thinker whose background and training have been primarily in the traditions of Western philosophical thought. Heidegger, in his treatment of the theme of ‘Being’, makes the point over and over again that one’s apprehension of Being lies beyond the power of ordinary conceptual thought. Heidegger used philosophy not only to come to his concept of Being, but also to criticize other philosophers who had failed to pay any attention to this theme as well as to show that ultimately one must fall back on a nonlogical disclosure of Being.
