Description
He was destined to be a hero, a revered historic figure, the pride of his proud race and the best of the human species. His journey to Lalupon could not be avoided, and the end of that journey ended his actualization. Appointment with history was duty, not, making on schedule. Could Fajuyi’s story have been different? In other words, did he, or had he done exercise any freewill in history? Would he not have been as dishonourable as he was, had he chosen to take the line of least resistance and was dishonourable unto life, he would have been collectively disowned and rejected by the destiny of a part from the Yoruba legacy of courage and survival. This is the story of Honour, Courage, Loyalty, and of self sacrifice for group survival.
The Road to Lalupon is another brilliant attempt to X-ray the Nigerian contraption through the lens of a singular act of courage, honour, loyalty and sacrifice. This has been justly realized by the contributors to this volume, all of whom must be commended for their scholarship and passion for justice and fairness.” — Segun Gbadegesin
“Lieutenant Colonel was, and still, the archetypal Yoruba war General faced with difficult choice between treachery and honour. He chose honour and paid the supreme price.” — Jumoke Anifowose
“In that final hour of fateful temptation, he did not take flight in ‘search of peace’, jump the fence and grab a bicycle and flee. He waited. He died.” — Dare Babarinsa
“Those who have always imagined a Yoruba betraying everybody all over the place … to get the raw cash must be convinced that they have been unlucky to have befriended the species of race.” — Nwulu Abiomine
“We must play politics, but with decorum when it is right to be decorous and fierceness when Ogun determines the invocation of it.” — Femi Obayori
“Contrary to the popular falsehoods about the history of Nigeria, the struggle against colonial rule was not a common Pan-Nigeria project.” — Shenge Akanbi
