SARTRE’S EXISTENTIALIST PHILOSOPHY AND THE QUEST

Introduction
We state here that the reader is not likely to be confronted with new themes as this study makes no pretentions of breaking new grounds on Jean-Paul Sartre’s existentialism. However, since every academic study must contribute to intellectual development if it must be regarded as contributing to knowledge, this study aims at elucidating in more explanatory but synthetical way, Sartre’s philosophy; the metaphysical and epistemological basis of his major philosophical theme. No doubt, Sartre’s philosophy has been greatly expounded as it has been subjected to critical analysis. But regrettably, most of these analyses have been piecemeal and do not adequately relate existentialism to the original tenet of existentialism as a ‘science of human existence’ from which all activities evolve and are directed.
